Why do you want to run that high?? It does put tons more wear & tear on your engine. Can burn up your plugs faster & cost more than the lower stuff.

Nitro that high is used for racing mostly, if your not going to race & don't need that extra little edge why do it? You can blow that OS engine right up if you do not tune it right. Not to mention you most likely would not notice the difference between 30 & 50 with the naked eye anyway.

Try this , see if you can get some 35% Sidewinder, If not see if you can get some Wildcat 30% Helimix.

If you are bent on trying 50%, I will get you the # to a local company here in Florida that makes 50% boat racing fuel & you get it shipped from them.

i used 40% in my k&b outboard befor... the engine seemed to screem a little louder than with the 30% i use now...

cfracr is right tho...
its probably not worth it...i would not go more than 30% with the os. That engine should last you a very long time if you don't abuse it

I think he's talking about for Watercadet's bud that he has coming - it has been run on 50% many times.

The scoop is that you can run 50%, heck you could put in 65 or 70% if you wanted. It will run, it will be super punchy, but @ a cost! Some engines are not designed to run that high. Most sport engines are not. I don't remember what engine your boat has, but take what I am saying & consider This.............

Higher nitro as said puts a lot of wear & tear on you engine, it also makes the needle harder/finiky to tune out. You take a risk of blowing your engine if you go to far. I have seen many a engine blow, some I have seen explode the case into pieces. Just from someone pushing a engine to far. I see this a lot with some OS's.
( I know of a fellow that blew up 4 engines (same engines) in three months, Why???? Because he was putting 50% racing fuel into a sport engine and running it @ its peak tune. (one only lasted about 2 tanks of fuel before the head cracked in two.)

Rick- your boy that blew up 4 OS's had nothing to do with him running 50% nitro. BREAK - IN the motor before you lean it down!!!! Don't expect todays tight motors to be able to unwind right out of the box. There is a reason the instructions say don't give it WOT for the first few tanks. OS has built a reputation of being the most precice and dependable motors on the market. They are not allways the cheepest, but not the most expencive by far. In the past few years they have brought the HP too. So now they are a tripple threat, economical, dependable and powerful. You seem to be the only person that knocks OS.... do YOU own any? Have you ever?? I have run OSs and others consistantly for the past 14 years and will vouch for their quality. The fellow that you saw prolly could have used some help from an experienced boater like yourself.
Eric and others- the higher nitro content will make the needle a little harder to find; if you have completly LOST it. It is going to be tighter on tuning but not touchey, implying it will change consistantly. You will just need to be closer in the begining. The fuel that I run is made by Powermaster and has 18% oil package that is both castor and synth. The last few tanks that I put through the Miss B were actually 60%. Eric, you will find the P&S fit is just as tight as it was just after break in, and that was about 2gals ago. The bearings are smooth and clean too. The motor doesn't run above 240* at it's worst and makes great power. So what are the dissadvantages of high nitro??? Infact! My Sirio I broke in on Trinity Monster 20%. It has somewhere arround 11% oil and I believe it is full synth. It showed more signs of wear than my Nova Rossi that has seen upwards on 4gal.
It is all about the blend of the fuel and the tuning for it. And by tuning for it I mean not just the needls, but making sure there is sufficient head clearence. The sport motors you are reffering to Rick, are notorious for having excessivly high head clearences making them PRIME canidates for HIGHER nitro. My Nova Rossi has some where arround .010 head clearence at 60% nitro and I wouldn't blink twice if that XTM motor in the bud and the OS motor in the MM Eric has was up arround .015 - .017. Keep the temps down and the oil sufficeint and there will be no more wear and tear from high nitro than lower stuff.
I didn't run the 50% in the Bud to be fast, just what I had lying arround for my other boats. It did make it plane faster and it was more consistantly powerful. It was kinda like getting used to running the boat at richer setting then leaning it out a click or two. That was about the speed difference. The interesting part was the needle was actually richer!! letting in more oil, running at the same temp.

Higher nitro should mean having to run your needle a bit richer. The reason is that Nitro burns at a lower air-fuel mix than methanol does, so the more Nitro in the fuel, the richer the needle because the engine will demand more fuel to get it right.

Methanol burns at approximately 7 parts air to 1 part Methanol.

Nitro burns at a 1:1 air:fuel ratio.

More fuel means more power in this case, so it might pay to do it IF YOU'RE RACING. For those of us running sport engines in a sport or semi-racing environment, lower nitro fuels are less expensive to burn, are not as hard on the engine (developing power takes a toll on the hardware) and will provide at least a reasonable day's outing.
