Spaz Stix question
I have some spaz stix color change paint. I am wanting to paint a body today and it states to spray Spaz Stix Pre-prep first but I don't have any.
Is the pre-prep necessary? Then is says spray 3-5 medium coats. Will this be enough?
Finally, should I back it with silver to give it even more sparkle or just back it with black? I will be using black out of a rattle can so hopefully that's OK.
Thanks guys!

Why silver first? (just so I know)
So no pre-prep needed?
Any pointers with this paint?
Thanks

i use that stuff all the time. 3 to 5 coats is a must!!! the more you put on the better the effect it will be. should you wash and prep it? you dont have to but it is better if you do. for the backing, i have used a wide variety of different black paints. the blacker backer paint works the best. its quick to apply and is all that is needed. the rattle can black will work just fine though. it does seem that hte blacker backer stuff makes the color change a little more dramatic.
normaly silver is used on some of the other spazstix paints. however, if you read the instructions for the color change paint then you will find that only black is needed. no other color will make the change take place.

painting has begun.
Thanks guys!
I would take a couple more opinions on backing with black or silver then black. I see that it states only black, but maybe silver then black would keep it a lighter/more sparkly paint instead of so dark and metallic. Just a thought.

silver is for the mirror backing, etc paints. black is only for the color change.
i have tried backing with other colors on scrap lexan. it does NOT come out (the color change). just use the black.
take a look at the pics above. the crt was done with a rattle can and the pcr and revo were blacker backer. see a difference? the crt is a little rougher in texture where as the other two are smooth.

also....give the coats 45 minutes to dry. you want them to dry completely before adding another coat. so, while painting has begun, you will still have more time to think about this

For me, the Pre-Prep is a must have! I like Spaz Stix backer Black, or Fas Black.

45 minutes, really? It looks to me like the air from the airbrush is drying it pretty quick. I've done 2 light coats so far and I can still see right thru it.
Beautiful bodies guys!
adrc - Have you tried backing the chameleon paints with silver prior to black?
Thanks!

No, not 45, more like 10 to 15. Nope, just backed it with Black. That's what it was designed to be used with. Keep doing light coats. I used a 1oz bottle on that truck. The more the better. You will still be able to see through it before you back it, once you back it you'll be like wow! Try not to get any wet glossy paint near any masking, light even coats are best, to much at one time can sometimes cause cracking in the paint too.

i like to wait 30 to 45 minutes to ensure that the paint is dry. The bodies above are beater bodies where I will not care if the paint gets chipped, etc. My two tone bodies are for that purpose. I do my bodies with the mind set that im not in a hurry and to take my time on.

Adrcracing; that picture above: after you were done spraying the main colors you then sprayed back? Wouldn't the black make the colors look darker than normal?

No, not with the color change and chrome paints, Black is what you use to back it.
I used a 1oz bottle of Gold to Green color change paint.

I assume he used an oz of the chameleon color. The mirror chrome goes much further then the chameleon. I sprayed 4 coats and it looks AWESOME compared to when I used 3 coats on a section of another body. The metallic emerald green really popped after the 4th coat.

I could post a pic but my junky cam does no justice to the flaky paint. May look better if the sun comes out tomorrow.

Best pic I could get. Took it for a spin on the drive and it looks real nice flip flopping in the sun.

Thank you! It really looks good in the sun. Then inside the house the colors are totally different. I say 4 coats are a minimum. Maybe when it warms up my wife will shoot some video of it so you can actually see it change while turning and such.
