How do I know if my GTB has sintered rotor?
Hi everyone,
I've heard that now GTB velocity 5.5 (among others) have been upgraded and include the new sintered rotor. Apparently, this modification has been made recently by Novak.
I've just bought a GTB 5.5 kit, but I can't see any reference to the sintered rotor on the box or in the papers... I'd like to make sure that I wasn't sold an old kit without this upgrade.
Do you guys know how I can determine if the rotor is the new sintered version?
Thanks all!

You can open up the motor to determine that. Unscrew the three long hex screws and pull the shaft end of the motor housing off. From there, you will be able to tell. If it's black and wrapped in thread, it's the old style rotor. Smooth and shiny is the new sintered rotor.
I think that's correct, It's been a year since I sold my gtb/5.5r.

Actually I've just notived something while I was browsing Novak Velocity 5.5 motor page :
"1-Effective February 2007, the Velociti 4.5R, Velociti 5.5R, Velociti 6.5R, and Velociti 7.5R motors have been upgraded with a Sintered rotor.
2-Effective February 2007, the Velociti 5.5R, 6.5R, and 7.5R have been upgraded with ribbed end bells."
Kowing that my motor has the ribbed end bells, I believe it is highly likely that I also have the sintered rotor... Both have apparently implemented at the same date.
This is good to be able to identify this feature from the outside.
Thanks

You don't have to open it. If the motor comes with Ribbed Endbells, it does have a sintered rotor.
You can also simply spin the motor with your fingers. The sintered Rotor has a very noticable "magnetic feel" or notchy-ness to the motor. The bonded rotor feels almost like no magnet.
Just do this test with No Pinion Gear on the shaft, and turn with your fingers.

Thanks for your help
I have tried to turn the rotor, and Wow, the notchy feel is very very strong.
I think I know what I have now

If it is notchy it is the sintered rotor along with all Velociti motors are coming with the both endbells finned and the sintered rotor. Also all the new GTBs made will have the li-po cut off built in too!

Wow, where did you get this info from!?
I'm going to Trakpower 2s1p lipos... So I'm highly interrested!!
Once again, is there a way to make Sure the ESC has the cutoff enabled?
Do you know what is the voltage treshold?
Thanks, this is exciting!

I don't work for Novak, but I am on Team Novak with the 20 minute mains we race here.
The voltage cut out is set at 6.25 volts. I don't even use it due to I have got used to feeling it dump before that voltage anyway. It will dump just little under 7 volts and you can feel it with the 8000 mah li-pos we use. Just don't pull the trigger anymore or you will ruin a li-po.
Good luck!
PS. We just had another race at the Farm II this weekend where Novak GTBs were 1st thru 5th.

I have seen in some RC shops the new upgraded version of Novak systems.
On the box, the new sintered rotor as well as the new lipo cutoff feature are both clearly stated.
On the one I have, none of these new features are mentionned
BUT, my motor has the new ribbed endbells... so it is apparently the upgraded version!
So how can I make sure my controller is also the upgrade version, with lipo cutoff??
Is there a way to activate or de-activate it?
Thanks again...

Your GTB does not have the lipo cut-off circuitry. If it did, the box would have the sticker and you would have received an addendum to the instructions explaining how to activate the lipo feature.
