pretty soon i am gonna nned to repalce my desktop here
this is what i have

system

windows xp
media center edition
version 2002
service pack 2

hp pavilion
amd athlon 64 processor
3800+
1.79 ghz,960 mb of ram

its a hp pavillion desktop.its about 3yrs old,i bought it from best buy,after the rebates it cost me 750 bucks!

i am not too computer savy and i want something really decent for around 1,000 bucks with tax
no macs please!

any good suggestions?

The main need to know is what do you want it to do? Gaming, multitasking, media? If you just need it to do basic things, what you have now is sufficient. Any computer can run like new if you know how to clean it/reformat

But if it just can't handle what you're throwing at it, we can get you hooked up! The main thing I always try to suggest is to stay away from those software bundle the Geek Squad tries to push on you. Less money wasted on Norton 360 and anti spyware and 20 different word processors means more money spent on powerful hardware!

i am having issues, my drives work but its keeps telling me to reinstall my cd rom and my dvd rom

i dont really game exept for pokerstars.i use it basically for burning cds,here,ebay,storing photos

i run firefox,adware and spybot on my computer

i am gonna look into the newegg site.my sister went to a camera and computer specialty shop years ago.she wanted 1 model and itw as abit ns witch,she came home with a pos e machine that was sooo slow.,plus she way over paid.i dont think it even lasted a few months we winded up tossn it.
