Is Electric Off-Road Racing really on its way out?

Just got home from the track, and don't you know I was the only one with an electric truck. We aren't talking only 3 or 4 guys, I am talking about 20 or so. That led me to thinking, last year, I was going to this one track where they had an Electric class but was only about 6 or so guys with the remaining racers- you got it...GAS. This year that same place, not even going to have off-road racing anymore. I know GAS is more popular, but does that mean electrics are going to become endangered species? Back in the day, Electric is pretty much all you had, so when I bought one this time, I just figured I would rather have electric instead of gas not thinking that hardly anyone (At least in the state of Maryland) owns any electrics. Anybody else seen this happen or am I just an exception? I am now thinking of giving up my electric and going gas even though I prefer electric. Thanks for any feedback

You really shouldn't post the same thread in two different forums, go and check my reply to the one in General Discussion.

The only reason I did was because of this specific topic, I want everyones input, not just people who own electrics. People who have electrics may be biased on there opinion just because they own an electric.

That's true.
I'm seeing more gas cars than electrics at any outdoor track.

I'm an electric car fan so isn't there anything to be done?
I think once electric car gained enough technology and run as fast as gas cars, more peple will run electric cars.

I just bought an RS4 Rally electric, when I could easily have gotten a nitro truck for the same money!

However, the new offroad track being built here is for primarily Nitro vehicles...

I checked lhs for Radio Control Car Action Magazine 'cuz I only had last December and this January one.

Wow, the Feburuary and March ones only feature Nitro cars.
I was extremely disappointed.
I almost subscribed and I don't think I should.

They have Nitro version of their magazine and still run articles all about nitro cars in their general magazine.

I demand Electric Radio Car Action!!!

Anybody agree?

That's why socal raceway carries more Exterem RC racing magazine than anything else.
I've never saw RCCA.

You can count me in on the electric only side.

I think nitro is cool, but after going to the beach with a friend and his T-Maxx (I had my TXT-1), he spent more time trying to keep the thing tuned than he was driving it!

My TXT-1? Hit the trottle and watch it go. No problems. Battery's don't last long enough, but thats why I have like 20 packs.. hehe

Well they do have RC Car Action which is both and RC Nitro which is nitro, They should make RC Car Action into an electric mag, or just make a separate one, I'm sure it would sell!

I'm 100% sure I'll subscribe one if they make RC Car Action Electric because I liked articles on electric touring cars in January 02 and December 01.

I went to many outdoor tracks near Los Angeles.
Most of them are pakced with nitro cars.
Not that I don't like them but it's hard to run with them let alone race with electric 1/10 tc.

So I'm racing in indoor track only for now until I find good electric friendly outdoor track.

I totally agree with rcruv... there should be a RCCA Electric mag, I would for sure buy ever month. I don't think that Electric racing is going out... around here about 90% of the people run electric and the other 10 are split between 1/8 scale buggy and 1/10 scale stadium truck.

rcruv, do you race at So Cal R/C Raceway? It's the only indoor track that I know of thats Electric only. No gas guys there. YAY!
I'm there twice a month myself since I got back into R/C Cars.

Currently racing a TC3.

I dont think its a factor of the electrics not going as fast as nitros, because my mod T3 competes with Nitro MT's and Rushs. Its the fact that people aren't patient enough to wait for a battery to charge and would rather fill 'er up and go. Also the fact that some people (I did same SOME) think of electrics as Tycos and that nitros are naturally fast and electrics are for beginners. anyway, my point is, both are equally fast and both have there up s and downs!

Great points TC3 Racer. It are the people like you who are not biased to one side, and equally take opinions of both sides, that make this hobby great. I just think nitro is not really for me.

Another reason for the misconception that Nitro is faster is in the sound. Nitro's sound faster. Especially on-road nitros that have a 2 speed tranny.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one TC3racer. Being able to play all day and just keep refueling is a huge draw for nitro. What many people new to the hobby don't realize is how much work it takes to get a nitro engine to run consistantly like that. And how long it takes to learn to re-tune the engine because of changes in temp., humidity, altitude, ect. ect. ect.

I own and fully enjoy both nitro and electric...there's a time and a place for both of them.
