is it ok to use a 7.2v pack as your receiver battery on a nitro?

I have an extra micro brick pack, and since i use 2/3 a cells on the ratzas chsasis now, i was wondering if it was ok to use the 7.2v pack as a receiver battery...

since 7.2 volts is what they have for elec it SHOULD be ok right?

It depends. Almost all receivers today are rated up to 6.0v only; running any hire and you will risk frying it. Which receiver do you have?

it'd be the the stock jr fm receiver...the r135...

its just i'd rather not break up the brickpack if i don't have to, but its not a big deal if i do, and i just thought it would've been cool to run the servo's on 7.2 volts...who knows...maybe even more torque and speed...but i guess if you COULD do it more people would've been doing it....heh.

well I think that reciver has bec, so I think you could, but it wouldn't give any more power to the servos because the bec circut will step the voltage down. But I will not be held resonable if anything happens to your reciver. Look in the manuel to see if it has bec.

most receivers and servos are rated to use up to 6V.

No, BEC is a feature the ESC provides, not the receiver.

If you provide the receiver with 7.2v, the servos and the receiver will get that voltage.

I can't seem to find the specs for the R135, I'll have to check it out at the shop tomorrow, but it's safe to assume that 6v is the max voltage.

no with my futaba reciver it has a bec circut built into the reciver, or it can run on 7.2 volts, my traxxas do to, those acctually worked up to 12 volts. it was just a conecter running from the batt +/- lines on the msc. http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/shar...275-manual.pdf see it says there that the reciver can use 4-7 cells (it looks like the don't recomend it thoough). That is for the jr reciver

The BEC on the a reciever means that it is BEC compatable. This means it is able to accept power of the proper voltage through any of the slots on the reciever. This works in conjunction with the BEC on the ESC and does not have built in regulation to drop the input voltage down to within specs. Older non-BEC compatable recievers could only accept power through the battery slot on the reciever. Some recievers can accept up to 7 cells for their input power source but very few of them can. ROAR also states in their rules that only 6 volts power input for the reciever is legal, unless you can prove the manufacturer has rated it for more volts.

The BEC on a MSC uses resistors to step down the voltage before it goes into the reciever...it doesn't actually give it 12 volts.

Oh and according to that PDF you posted the reciever power supply can only be 4.8 to 6.0 volts. Thats 5 cells max directly powered.

Really because mine doesn't 7.2 straight to the reciver. the 12 volts was by accident.
