spazstix chrome paint, dont use it!

i bought some of this stuff for my xxxnt. i did metallic red flames in the front and 3 coats of chrome in the back to get a less shiny look[it was way too shiny with one and 2 coats]. i took my xxxnt out to the track to race last monday and i only made it through the qualifying rounds before i broke but a bunch of chrome in the back of the car by the shock towers is flaking! and i only used that body for 5 tanks of gas! it looks great but it comes off easy. and if your thinking i had alot of crashes, i didnt. i only had one bad crash that stripped my st. servo and a couple taps on the wall.[light taps] all i have to say is next time im getting metallic silver.

You're supposed to overcoat anypaint of that sort with silver or white. I also usually put electrical tape over the parts of the inside of the body where somthing will scrape against, to prevent the paint from flaking off.

That what I was thinking of doing because the orange I painted on my body went on really thin and is chipping where the shock towers rub. Guess Ill have to try that out

i used 2 coats of white covercoat. just like the instructions say. a stripe of it flaked off and it went up to where the metallic red flames ended and stopped right there. next time im using metallic silver. i guess im just gonna use this body as my back up body and use my crowd pleazer instead. its too bad cuz it turned out pretty decent[or atleast for one of my paintjobs]. but then again so did my crowd pleazer.

o yeah, i did a patriotic paint job on my crowd pleazer and none of the paint has come off at all and ive run 2 race days through that body.

I've sprayed lots of Spaz Stix Chrome and never had this problem. My guess is since a strip flaked off, you are spraying it to heavily. It needs to be sprayed lightly and in multiple thin coats.

That being said, all chromes, Spaz and Alclad are the least durable paints and will come off easier then just about every other paint.

Actuallly you're supposed to back it with a water based flat black paint such as Parma's Fasblack. Any paint that isn't water based will eat through the chrome paint and ruin it. If you back it with like 2 fairly thin coats of water based flat black you'll be fine. You're the first person I've heard have a bad experience with Spatz Stix paints

I have sprayed a few bodies and done quite a bit of chrome and Haunted pointed out to me a while back it need to be sprayed on dry and let set for five to ten minutes and then lightly again. I make sure my body is prepped before hand and I always back with water based several thin layers on this also. It takes time but works. When done I seal the whole bottom of the body in white as a top coat and have not had any problems. Was this Spas in the spray can or was it airbrushed. Cans tend to spray thicker than guns do also.

Besides being sprayed too thick the other major reason for paint chiping and flaking is due to poor or no body prep before spraying. When being molded there's a greasy mold release agent that is sprayed on the mold to keep the lexan from sticking to it. If you don't wash the body good enough before painting then the paint will not stick well.
