ESC Question...
I just got back into the world or Electric R/C, well I dusted off the trucks I have. And I have been trying to get my Tamiya Hummer up and running so my son and I can play with it. I pulled out the old Hobbico charger and got one of four batteries I had laying around to take a charge, but after I program my Rooster speed control, the truck will go forward but not reverse... What the heck? Now the Rooster is probably around 10 years old give or take a couple and it has seen better days. There is a hole in the bottom of the case, that I don't remember how it got there, about the size of a pen cap's circumference, it's definetly a burn but other than that everything is ok. Does anyone know a way to check the ESC for proper operation or should I just throw it out and buy a new reversible? Also I remember back in the day we used to send the ESC's to Novak and they would fix them and send them back to us, but I don't know if that was just because I ran a Hobby shop or if that was their customer service standard. Do they still do that? Also I hooked my multimeter up to the motor leads and checked the voltage in both forward and reverse, forward was getting about 5.8 to 6.4 volts but reverse was only getting about 3.2 volts... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if it is time to get a new ESC what do you recommend for a stock motor or mild mod I have an old school Endoplasma 16 double that I remember as being pretty quick and not too much for the stock gears of the truck. I just plan on bashing this truck around in the yard no jumps or racing just dirt running and some parking lot.
Thanks in advance and sorry for such a long post.

Most speed controls i have seen have different modes which can be selected and only some of then have reverse while others have limited reverse. You may want to find out if this is one of them, it may just be a simple mode change that clears you up.
As far as a new ESC, Novak just re-released the rooster; I have herd nothing but good remarks about it.

Thanks I'll try that. I'm not sure if this Rooster has the Reverse disable it's the original one from like 94 or 95 but we'll soon see. Thanks again I'll post the results later.

Hey New Question For You.
Well I finally had time to try every different option I had as far as motor and batteries, with this Rooster and it still will not go into Reverse. I guess I can just bash around with forward only at least until I save up a bit more dough to pick up a new Rooster, Man I love Novak, I was looking around for a while trying to decide which ESC I wanna get and there it is the re-release of the Rooster now upgraded. SWEET!!!!! Has any one used the New Rooster? Do you like it? Is it as user friendly and fun to use as the original?
