Question Need two new ESCs...

I currently looking to replace the ESCs from my TC3 and my son's T3. Both were Duratrax and though my son's lasted for several years, it came to a very smoky end last week. Mine is acting up and doesn't appear to want to re-program.

A friend suggested the Castle Creations Mamba, but considering it costs about three times what I paid for the vehicles off of eBay, I politely declined.

We both race for the fun of it and would like something reliable (I'm starting to doubt Duratrax's reliability) but not at a price that would limit the amount of races that we would be able to enter. I'm hoping under $50 (since I have to buy two of them).

What would be considered a solid ESC that doesn't cost more than what I paid for each of our vehicles (~$75)?

Castle Creations Sidewinder (check your other thread too).

If you want REALLY cheap and are above 15t motors, Dynamite Tazer 15T.

We're both just hanging on with stock 27T motors, so nothing fancy is needed. I'll look into the Dynamite Tazer (I think a buddy of mine just bought one).

Is the Dynamite more reliable than the Duratrax?

The tazer, last I checked, has a lifetime warranty. I don't think we've ever had a defective one anyway. They seem to work pretty well as long as you keep them above 17t.

Who are the Donkeys?

Good to hear. I'll definitely check them out.

Donkeys are a bad euphemism for the Denver Broncos. It's not really cool to call them the Donkeys, but I have for years, so I get away with it!

lol...

I haven't watched a single football game in my entire life. Not all the way through anyway. Well, unless you include marching band. LOL!

Sports, from the spectator point of view, aren't really my thing. I used to play baseball and am kind of trying to take up mountain biking, but I'm really just a nerd at heart.

I have a brand new, still in the box Duratax Intellispeed w/ABS brakes and reverse. PM me for details

I would also have a look at the Tamiya TEU-101 ESC from ebay. A friend of mine, and I, both have one. They are one very tough thing to kill. I've hooked up 9 cells to mine with various motors. No damage. No threat of damage. Not even hinting of being over-stressed. It barely got warm. Technically it's only rated for 6, maybe 7 cells and a 27 turn motor. I've had down to a 19 turn motor without problems, and like I said, up to 9 cells - but not on the 19 turn motor
It's got excellent brakes - far better than my Futaba MC330 one (which costs twice as much) and you have to come to a complete stop before it'll go into reverse, therefore keeping your motor and drivetrain and tires from giving up the ghost.

Some people may scoff at it, but blah blah blah to them!!!! It's great for BASHING with high turn motors (23-27 turn), just probably not up to racing quality. If you look on ebay, you can get brand new ones for about $30 odd.

**NOTE - this isn't MY car, I found this photo on the DF02 thread where 9 cells has been discussed on this particular ESC and about it being damn near impossible to kill.
