Custom RC8T Pullstart Engine Mount with Pics!

Well we all know that higher class racing truggies are meant to be started on a starter box. For those who want to mount a simple pullstart engine onto a high class racing truggy like me, here is the best way to do so on the RC8T!

I chose the RC8T because of its history and reliability, and I used my LRP 30 pull start engine off my Savage XL. I am not a big racer so having the convince of this engine and not carrying the whole starter box is a big benefit.

This should help out a lot of people who need the help

Notes:
Bump Start engine backplate’s are flush, it does not protrude from the engine, as seen below.
(not my image but you get the point)

Pullstart engines (or roto/spin start) usually have a backplate that sticks out as seen below.

(not my image but you get the point)

The RC8T wont allow a engine with a backplate like that to fit on the stock 2 piece mount, you must use spacers under the engine mount to overall raise the engine farther away from the mount. Basically clearing the backplate from hitting the chassis engine mount plates.

Instead of spacers, I want a direct fit, so what I did was order a second set of chassis mount plates, cut off the ends to clear the backplate. Two plates stacked on top of each other are perfect to space the engine, and I can still cleanly mount the engine mount to the engines ears and get a pretty stock look! I’m not the best explanation-er lol, let the follow pictures do the talking!

YES, I know I broke the engine ear, really bad landing, luckily the engine still runs perfect. GO LRP!

I even branded them hahaha

Pretty creative. I like it.

Question: Do the bump start mounts hang down so low that simply cutting a clearance hole in the chassis would permit the backplate to contact the ground?

Some cars do. My NTC3, even with the pull start mounts, has the bottom of the backplate about half a mil above the ground when the car is bottomed out.

You can most certainly cut a clearance hole in the chassis, but that's by far the most labor you will be doing.

I find spacers to be very impractical in this situation as im constantly swapping out the engine. So having that 2 piece engine mount design, (Chassis Plate, and Engine to Chassis Plate) I wanted to keep it as simple as it gets.

Instead of spacing out the engine ears and the mount, stacking 2 chassis plates helped with clearance and cutting the ends of the chassis plate is very easy. It still functions perfectly as stock. The chassis plates are this "one combined piece that don't separate unless you unscrew them and, its almost exactly stock just "thicker".

I'm not sure on how many other cars this may be useful, but the idea and concept may apply to others.

No problems at all man, running hard in my Savage XL and RC8T.

3 screws holds it in place without a doubt. I'm just going to let it die, I think it will hold up until the piston and sleeve will hold up.

At that point ill just get a normal .21 engine, but im leaving to the Air Force soon so I think its a end for my RC hobbies for the next 6years or more.
