Just picked up a used nitro mini with an original HPI Bus body in decent shape off fee-bay. Has the pullstart HPI .12 with an aftermarket cooling head, side exhaust, two-speed trans, fiber brake pad, aluminum shocks, sway bars, and a funny little bottle hooked to the motor, near the bottom. Haven't figured out what it is, but its anodized blue, plugs in below the carb.

I had a chance to drive it a little this weekend. Drives well, needs to be cleaned, adjustment of the 2-speed, little things like that.

The wheelbase fits OK, but in the right rear, it limits wheel/tire choice due to the belt location. I'll have to move the rear arms out to run the "vintage" HPI hoops.

Any ideas on what parts I could use to run the exhaust to the rear?

Well, I am ready to start taking things apart, and getting into fixing and improving things on the mini. I ordered a 2-spd rebuild kit off fee-bay, and picked up a new receiver @ the LHS.

I'm going to adjust my wheelbase also to accommodate the larger tire/wheel combo. I'll try to remember to snap some pics along the way.

Incidentally, HPI USA no longer has the manual, online or otherwise. I ended up digging it up from the HPI UK site's archive section.

that little bottle is called a boost bottle, it stores extra air fuel mixture when you are off the throttle and realise them when you accelerate....but it dosent really work well, the bottle is too small for the engine..

what do you mean runing the exhaust to the rear? with a tuned pipe?

Thanks for the info on the boost bottle!

I found the MIP Stinger tuned pipe, runs to the rear, not necessarily the stock pipe. I'll have to post some pics.

in 2002, HPI re released the nitro mini with the 15 FE motor with the smooth purple head...They had 110 of them.

I have one, new in box...also, my original mini with 12 cv, MIP stinger, boost bottle, and super chassis and all the other hop ups...

Nice, fastharry! Got any pics?

I ordered a stock 2-speed from fee-bay for the Traxxas Nitro 4-Tec, and it bolted right in to the mini. I'm always excited when I run across something like that...

Sorry Impulse, didn't shoot any during assembly, but it bolts right up the same as the stocker. The two-speed is waaaay beefier than the original HPI two-speed mechanism is/was. Best part is, its really inexpensive.

I'll see if I can get a couple shots this week or weekend.

front belts, countersunk chassis, arms, shock towers, and aluminum upper decks. just some info!

Interesting... Looked it up on ebay and they go for $30~ that is a cheap alternative to the stock HPI 2 speed. Has anyone else tried this? If it is true it will fit all the rs4 belt drive nitros...

Looks close to me:

Mike

Viewing this thread is depressing to me. I sold my Nitro Mini in April because I got tired of looking at it on my shelf. The belts always seemed to cause me problems whenever I ran it (the streets and parking lots around here have too much debris) so I just parted with it.. Oh how I miss it dearly. *sighs* The guy who bought it was really juiced to take it off my hands. At least I know it will go to an owner that will have fun with it.

On a brighter side I just picked up a SN Rally - it is a blast!!! <3 Shaft Drives.

Still would like to re-own a Nitro Mini someday....
