Getting Started Again after 6 year Layoff - Engine Choice Help
I went from having 1 kid; trolling the RC forums every day; racing my MRX-4 on one of the best track on the east coast; and scaring the little one with my Hyper-7PCR and xxx-nt, to 3 kids and being out the game now for about 6 years, on-road track demolished, and a ton of equipment in my garage.
Now that my older two boys are of age, I want to get my pass along my trucks, however the old OS .12 CV-X engine in my xxx-nt has lost compression. It was already going bad from the get go. I want to replace it, but don't know with what engine. Ebay doesn't seem as robust as it used to back in the day with RC nitro stuff. Even the forums seem deader.
What type of engine can I use in the xxx-nt now? I prefer to get a short shaft engine ready to go out of box.
Thanks.

Nitro is down a bit, but certainly not out. Assume pretty much any .12-.15 size motor will fit. Names are all pretty much the same, and OS is still putting out great engines.
Check the online hobby shops - Tower, Amain, etc.
In fact, I believe OS just re-released the CV engine.

Look for anything that's side exhaust with a rotary carb. It's the easiest installation in the XXXNT. These engines also have manageable power, where the more optimized engines have too much power. They're hard to handle and more expensive. OS is a great brand with a very good .12 abc engine, although I don't know if they have a side exhaust anymore. I'd try finding an older one and save some money. The XXXNT takes a long standard crank (not a shorty) but I've found that I've still needed to cut a little off the crank to get it to fit properly.
