project: Traxxas sledgehammer- This seen better days!
ok well just got this Traxxas sledgehammer off ebay, paid 132 bucks shipped! it came damaged so i am working with the seller to rectify the situation.....anyhow I know its not in perfect condition and I knew it needs TLC....gonna
kinda of make a close to a "sledgehammer" truck as I can,not going for perfection but something to beat around with, lol
I had one of these back in high school and i sold it,never had enough money to get it running...
so anyhow here's what i got so far:

the front shocks from a stampede/bandit will work for the long shocks on sledgehammer (found this out after research and measuring my pede).Thank god for ebay...not everything is listed un sledgehammer you have to look up the actual traxxas part number,lol....anyway found the front and rear mounts i.n black...not avalible in white
ordered a set of shocks for it
I have the 2 back shocks for it in the box that came with it
besides that it does run believe it or not has a kysho 240 motor, a manual speed control and the reado is a futaba attack 3 radio

so what are my plans for it:
swap out msc for a the cheapest working esc i will find, lol
new 2.2 tires if i can get em cheap if not I'll take used
new antenna tube, $1.90 off ebay, lol
new shocks around
a new body down the road
basically doing this cheap as i can, just want a truck to fiddle with
tell you they dont make stuff like they use to...I wish Traxxas would reissue this truck.Yes its heavvier than my stampede!
I will keep you updated!

ok some more updates:
put in new body mounts and replaced the rear shocks...they are from a front of a 2wd slash or bandit

I mugged a midnight pumpkin kit i have and I took the tires for the sledgehammer, they are a little smaller but with a little muscle they will work fine
so far here it is after some changes:

ok still coul;dnt leave well enough alone, lol.
I finally got a chance to test the truck out finally and ughhhh!.it performed horrible!the motor was eather shot or the manual speed control wasnt up to par....so I went back to the tamiya midnight pumpkin kit i mugged earlier,lol...this time grabbing the 540 silver can motor and the tamiya esc.....
that silver braket looks homemeade or off another rc...it doesnt look right but I could be wrong...anyway with soem double sided taper, the esc was all mounted and I installed the tamiya 540 silver can motor

I set up the esc according to the directions and Presto!, ground control we have lift off!!!!
The new motor and esc combo worked flawlessly!
Now since the truck has normal power to say, while ets driving it in my apartment here, i noticed a very bad wobble in the right rear tire???I am gonna have to look into but to fool around with it its fine to say!,not like I am gonna go racing with it,lol.....So besides getting a new body for it and fixing the wobble issue..I think thiongs are going good...Yes One day I will straighten out the whole shock issue But this truck is a "rat rod" of sorts!,lol
I wish Traxxas would reissue this truck like Tamiya does with soem of their kits.its a awesome truck.Call me old fashion but sometimes things from the past are the best!
BTW- My cat Chevy thought the olf Traxxas manual speed control was a toy for him,lol

One of my cats is constantly on the workbench while I'm working (she looks the same as yours!) - chewing on wires, batting at screws, and generally making a nuisance of herself. She pops up in my pics from time to time.
I've never driven a 'hammer...looks like it would be a wheelie machine with the motor and electronics up so high.

update: Sadly Sunday I smoked the tranny....You can move the "spur" gear like a loose tooth....
I dont know what else damage i did inside the tranny
I have a parts truck but dunno if the tranny is good for parts, also need to find a schematic of the tranny
I believe i did this by jamming it from reverse to forward to do a wheelie
so for now old betsy is out of commisison

Ouch! Snapped the shaft maybe? Not quite sure how those gearboxes are assembled. Can easily find and cut down a 5mm replacement if so. The gear though...well, that might be more work. Imagine they are getting hard to come by
"Old Betsy" - lol, I used to call my '92 F150 the same thing.

Looks like it either ate a bearing or broke the top shaft... Not sure how those are built. If it was mine it'd be apart already.
