Old School RC 1 - Thank you. Yes, the engine leans forward a bit at the moment because of the rear tires being alot taller than the RJ Speed stock ones. I've been debating with keeping it like that or leveling the engine out. Didn't know if it made it look slighttly more aggressive or not.

09victory-rc- Thanks. I haven't made a definite decision on the body color. There is a paint color that hasn't been released yet that I MIGHT paint it. But I have to wait till it comes out and I spray a test piece to see if I want to go that direction. Plus I think I might do a little something different on the body first before I paint it.

I had a theme that I attempted to do on another body that didn't turn out when I tried it before. But I have since been told what I may have done wrong on that body and might try it again.

Sorry to be vague about my answer. But the body paint job is "classified" right now. Heck, I don't even know what it might end up!

I did go to a local electronics store looking for "don't have the slightest idea" and after speaking to a employee there I walked out with a 25ft ethernet cord for one of my computers and 4 foot of wire.

I happen to ask the guy if they had anything that looked like small braided wire. He thought about it and took me over to their rolls of cable. Removed the insulation off of one of the cables and VIOLA... BRAIDED CABLE! This one in particular had a solid wire in the middle so it can hold its shape. The diameter of the braided part may just be perfect to use as a radiator hose. It cost me about $2 for 4 feet of wire. Enough to mess up a few times until I get it right. I'll post some pics up later after I take them of the wire.

Thank you Lille Buller.

Here are some pictures of my soon to be "braided hoses". They are just regular wire. But when you cut the insulation off they look like braidied hoses. In 1/10 scale anyway. The top one has a solid wire in it so it will hold the shape that I bent it to. The bottom wire does not have a solid core so it will not hold shape. Don't know what I will use the bottom one for yet. Maybe as a ground strap since it does not hold it's shape.

Here is a close up picture. I'm now thinking of ways to make a "hose coupler". Might have to make it out of styrene. I'm going to do some research on AN fittings and see if I can put something together to resemble that.

I still have to decide how to mount the motor. I might just use a piece of aluminum and some bolts and nuts on the bottom of the motor. No one is going to see it as it will be inside of the block. I also am still undecided on whether or not to make the engine level with the ground instead of having it lean forward slightly like it currently is. I will have to make that decision first before I mount it.

I haven't had a chance to make any further progress. Been busy last few weeks. Working on some of my real cars. I think I'll to take it to work today and make a simple engine mount. I'll leave the engine tilted forward just to save time. I can always build another one if I don't like the way it turns out. I'll also try to test the steering servo to make sure that I have enough clearance for actual movement.

If anyone can help me find some thing. I think groovy drift use to have a DIY on making a 1/10 nitrous bottle. The site is completely gone now. So all the DIY's are gone. I wish I had copied the directions. I know there are some other directions out there. But these particular directions and the final result where simple and perfect. If anyone happens to have these and can forward them to me, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll grab a nitrous bottle, take pictures and start measuring.

I should be able to post some progress pictures in the next few days. Thank you for your interest Ihaveaxrayt2r.

I was planning on painting it orange since it's a hemi.

I did just get my hands on a chevy motor but it's from the 50's era with a magneto. So I'll save that for my next project. I already have an idea for what I can put it in.

But for this project I'm going with an orange block.

Picked up some brass and CA to make an engine mount. Going to bend it and drill some hole through it and the car. Then secure it with a bolt and nut.

I did a GTO drag car like this, it's on an RAE drag chassis, and we went with an old-school "Arnie Beswick" Tiger paint job.

I WISH I was able to find one of those Chevy motors! I looked for months, but would up settling for a Hemi for this one Altered project I did:

Those are some nice cars! Do you have any other pictures of them?

Just out of curiosity. What color did you use to paint the distributor cap? Also, what did you do for the red and blue pulleys? They look almost anodized. Did you spray clear red and blue over the chrome to get them to look like that?

And is that a black parachute back there? I was thinking about possibly installing one. But with every idea comes a ton more work added to the work already needed. Thank you for sharing.

The distributor cap is Pactra Racing red with two drops of Outlaw black mixed in, the pulleys are either sprayed with transparent colors, or sometimes just Sharpie'd that color.

For the Chute, I used a square block of bumper foam material, sprayed it with 3M #777 spray glue, and "gift wrapped" it in a piece of a black nylon scarf.

I have more pics in that same Photobucket album.

Hi los02,

Thats a really awesome project you got going on there. Or has it already been completed?

i was just wondering though if you could explain a little further on what you said below regarding customise fitting of the pontiac on a 1/10 scale touring car.

Any tips? Suggestions?

Thanks man.

The body comes in. But since it's made for a Savage it's narrower than even an electric car body. So it won't fit over my rear tires. I take some measurements, take apart the rear end and drive over to the machine shop. A few days and some $$$ later I have modified hubs that allow for my wheels to clear the body with only 1MM of space left on either side. Sorry for no pics. I JUST decided to start this thread.

So at that time I had the car body trimmed using HPI's stock trim lines and mocked it up over the chassis:

shelbs... no this project is not done. I haven't touched it since my last post. I'll see if I can get to it this weekend. I walk by it every day and watch it collect dust.

As far as the pontiac body: I have it mounted to a RJ Speed dragster chassis which is longer. Not a 1/10 scale touring car. You will never get the wheel wells to align with a touring car.

Nope, you're not doing anything wrong. Its a dead site, so it kinda doesn't work anymore in general. The archive gives you a limited view of what was there, and some of the external links are going to be broken.

Hard to believe that site's been offline for 2 years.

It's been a very long time as I haven't even touched this project. But I finally put my hands back on it.

So I painted the body. It didn't come out the color that I wanted. It's way lighter than the cap. The color is actually nice. But it's just not what I was expecting. So I will be buying and painting another body a different color.

But here goes an update pic if anyone is still interested.

Instead of going with the norm I decided to paint the bumpers and exhaust matte black. I will take pictures in the daylight so that the actual color can be seen better.

I'm trying to decide what material to make the roll cage out of if I decide to actually take the time to build one.

Oh, and aluminum front wheels are on order.

Thank you. Here are a few day time pics that I just took. It's a point and shoot. Hard to get an accurate picture of the color with how bright it is outside. But better than the inside shots. It's not silver. It's Kryptonite Green. But it turned out way lighter than I expected. I was hoping for the spray can cap color. Might paint the next body fuschia to make it stand out.
