Engine temperature

I was wondering what the “normal” safe temperature of an engine that has been broken in and is being driven hard. When my GT was running I hated for it to go above 220. Am I being too overprotective? Did I just make sense? I’m going to bed…

Dave, WAKE UP!!!! LOL Safe temps are a matter of preference and in most cases where the engine operates the best. I know guys who will not ever let their engines run above 220 to 230. I tune my engines to where they run best. Here in CO, i've found that my NovaRossi cx12 likes to run at 260 to 280. My O.S. cv12, runs best at 240, as does my O.S. CZ-Z 12. My AE 15 screams at 190 to 220, Trinity/Picco 12 likes to run around 250. My Dynamite SPD12 runs best at 240 to 250 and my TRX Pro 15 runs best at around 290. All of these engines are used for Offroad racing and bashing, and engine life has not been a issue with any of them.

yes, i do agree with dirtracingfool here, i ran my OS RZ-V01 at 240 and not producing any power at all. But it hauls at 290. This really depends on a lot of variables, humidity, bla bla bla....
just go with your setting as long as it is producing decent amount of power.
For me, 290 to 300 is where my OS runs....

Why thank you Dirt and Jay. I feel more confident to put my engines above 220 now.
