The Eastern Soaring League 2012 Contest Calendar

The Eastern Soaring League 2012 Contest Calendar

Electric sailplane pilots may wish to attend one of these events to watch how pure gliders are flown in a regional contest format.

There are two divisions in the Eastern Soaring League.

TD - Unlimited Sailplane launched off winches. TD is typicall flown in a man on man format.

HLG - Hand Launched Gliders - Typically flown under FAI F3K rules using discus launched gliders.

Both divisions are reflected below. Note that this is a draft and is subject to change. For the latest, check the ESL web site at www.flyesl.org

Typically there is an Expert Class and a Sportsman Class flown at each contest. There is also a Novice program for pilots new to ESL contests who may wish to give it a try. Naturally Experts tend to fly higher end birds while Novices may be flying Easy Gliders in TD or 2 channel kit built DLGs in HLG. You can read about the ESL classes here:

Attention to all you Hand Launch, Discus Launch, F3K pilots, the Eastern Soaring League is coming to the Long Island Silent Flyers field, Syosset, NY, on August 4 and 5, 2012. We have a large field with plenty of room to fly. www.lisf.org

This will be the fourth HL/F3K contest weekend in the ESL contest series, contests 7 and 8. Contest 1-4 were held in Maryland with 24 pilots having flown so far. Contests 5 and 6 in the series will be in Massachusetts with more pilots racking up season scores. Then the ESL HL/F3K division moves to Long Island, New York for contests 7 and 8. All told there will be 14 contests in the ESL HL/F3K series this year with the season ending in Wilson, North Carolina at the East Coast Hand Launched Glider Festival. ECHLGF. Fly with the ESL and fly with some of the best in the sport.

In order to qualify for season standings and awards you need to fly in 5 of the 14 ESL contests. Your top 5 scores count to your end of season standings. If you fly more than 5 then you can replace a poor showing with a better score. So if you have not flown any of the ESL contests so far, you still have time to get in your 5 and qualify for the end of season awards.

If you would like to fly the ESL contest at LISF in NY, please register here:

If you would like to see the full schedule, you can look here:

We look forward to flying with you.

Best regards,
Ed Anderson
