leopard 4 pole bl motors

Hi there
http://www.rcecho.com/LEOPARD-RC-Mod...tor-IM102.html
Does any know how high you can gear up a 4 pole motor i have a Leopard 3660 4650kv 4 pole motor and a 80a xerun esc on 3s in a hyper 10 tt gear set up at the moment 21/42. The problem is that the esc is overheating on the first battery not even 10mins before over heat cut off kicks in. the motor temp is in 58c with fan and 45c with fan the esc get to 74c runing no not to deep grass.
I thought that 4 pole motor can be geared higher, my aim is to get up to around 50mph on grass and hopefully get up to 60mph on the road on 3s could some one help.

p.s will post a pick of the hyper 10 tt set up if possible

thanks filly

Unless your grass is astroturf short, it's going to be hard on components. You're just drawing more amps because of the extra load put on your electronics. However, from what I've seen, if ESC temps are high and motor temps are low and everything is rated for a similar amount of power, a bigger pinion should help reduce temperatures slightly.

Your motor appears to be rated for 130A, which would explain why it's not getting as hot as the ESC. 58c really isn't too bad for a motor (136.4F for me lol), but the ESC is getting dangerous at 74c. I'd think you need a higher power ESC if you're going to be running on grass with a 3 cell.

If you do go with a stouter ESC, you will probably find that the motor will start running hot as well. You'll just get a little more time before it gets too hot.
