how important is it to obey the "motor limits" on escs?

im thinking of getting an esc with a 12t limit just becuase its cheap. i am using it for drag racing, so itll run for about 3 seconds full blast at a time. what happens if i use a 10t motor instead for those couple seconds?

now say it has a 10 cell limit, and i want to run 12 cells? its only for a while, how important is it?

can anyone help me, like recommend something?

Hmm, How important is it to follow ESC's limits?

Depends on if you like blue smoke or not..

If you like blue smoke, go ahead and not worry about ESC's limits. But most people don't like blue smoke..

ESC's limits aren't set in stone but they should be followed. a 10t ESC might be fine with a 9t, but it's not suggested, obviously

try to stay on the safe side of things if you dont wanna run out and buy new stuff.

my esc is rated for a 14 turn motor, and can run on 8 cells. i limit myself to a 15 turn motor, and wouldnt run anything over 6 cells (cant fit more in my car).

I'd say it depends on how deep your wallet is.

I'd try to stay in the motor limit. Even if you don't get the smoke, you may still damage the electronics, which could cause other problems.

if you are going to drag race only, then do what the drag racers do. run a servo so that it will activate a switch to give the motor instant full power.
