Well from what i noticed so far is the overall design itself... prolly some features but i have not totally explored all of my radio... the synthesized xs to me is the best deal of radios ive owned...

I got my M8 this week and here is what I can see in a side by side comparison with my R1

Price
M8=Very expensive $268 with receiver & 2 Servos
$400 with Novak Switch & Crystaless Reciever. (a good deal considering the individual prices)

R1=Stupidly expensive at $348 with receiver

Really, both of these things are over priced, especially when you consider the XR3i/XS3 and the MX3 radios between $130 and $230 and then the Hitech Aggressor CRX with Spectra for only $300. They offer 90% of the features of the more expensive models.

Winner M8

Fit & Finish
M8=Great Screen, fair build quality (sorry, it just doesn't feel like a $300 radio to me), better steering wheel feel.

R1= Most solidly & best built radio I've ever put my hands on but a bit heavy and steering wheel action could be smoother.

Winner R1

Ergonomics
M8=Great screen, great right hand controls & setting buttons, poor left hand control buttons. Over all feel ok, but I had to put tennis racket wrap on it to make it fit my hand nicely.

R1=Good screen, good right hand control & setting buttons, great left hand setting buttons. The grip is naturally also much more comfortable for me. The only problem with the controls on this radio is the idle up & dual rate rockers are where they can get knock on and off all the time.

Winner R1

Programability
M8=Lots of features, very easy to program so far

R1=Lots of features, not so easy to program

Winner M8

Upgradability
M8=FM75 module, FM27 module, Novak Switch for Crystaless, optional steering wheels.

R1=FM75 module, FM27 module, no crystaless option

Winner M8

For me, the overall winner is the M8 but based solely on the crystalless option. I never would have picked up the the M8 if the R1 offered this option but I'm tired of channel hits at our track and having to switch crystals. I'm surprized JR hasn't made a crystalless module for the R1.

They should make a crystaless am module that can be pluged in where the crystal goes and have a special harness to mount on...

EXACTLY, Fastest radio on the market ( 'till the EX-10 Helios is released), Tiny receiver, very comfortable, best fit and finish, very lightweight. It is a little harder to access some features than it is with an M8, but who cares, all the features you use most often are a keystroke away, AND, you can actually feel how much quicker the R responds.

KO IS KING!!!!!!

Ohhhh, I also forgot to mention, it costs less than ANY other radio that can compete with it's features.

ive had a jr and a futaba. jr raidos are okay... the reciever limits the amout of volts to the servos so thats why i dont really care for them. it can be fixed though. right now i have the futaba 3pdf and i love it. then again... all the top guys use airtronics

1. Turn the transmitter power switch on.
2. Press the Scroll key to access the Function mode.
3. Press the Scroll until "EXP" appears in small letters on the left side of the screen.
4. Press the Increase or Decrease keys to select the desired exponential value.
5. Press the Scroll key to access the travel End-Point Adjustment function.
6. To exit the Function mode, either turn off the transmitter power switch or press the Scroll and Channel keys at the same time.

Sorry about my errors in the previous post. But I did what you said and it didnt work... i did it on my xxx-s and it worked... I think it has somethin to do with my esc. I have a GM V12 XC... if anyone knows what profile is good for off road stock buggy... tell me ... and how to get to it. I read the manual on how to go to different profiles... but nothin happened.

The Futaba 3PK is simply the best followed closely by the Airtronics M8.

I've used the cheap stuff from Hitec, Futaba, and Traxxas, and now I run an XR2 and an MX-3, and I love both of them. I'm thinkin I'll say the Airtronics is a little better because it's easier to navigate, but both are great radios and a great price. I haven't ever seen the high end stuff from Futaba or KO, but the new Agressor CRX from Hitec looks really nice. I can't really pic a favorite though.

I have to say that the best radio is the 3PK. I've used Futaba Hitec Airtronics, JR, KO.The Hitec feels cheap, the KO wasn't the top of the line unit but i didn't like it's feel (can't really compare with 3PK, it's not fair). The M8 in my opinion is too expensive and you don't get PCM. The R1 is a great radio lots of features but not easy to learn. The new radios from JR are the best "entry level" computer radios. If i didn't have the 3PK i'd buy a JR XS3.

The speed of radios is not only how fast you can turn the wheel(you will never be able to be fast enough). The signal from the radio gets transmited to the reciever at a very high frequency so it doesn't matter if the wheel is turning or not the radio is sending info all the time. The faster the signal the less chance an interference can get into the RX and cause a problem.

Futaba 3PK is the best radio i've ever used. And it's the best buy i've ever made in this hobby i reckon. It's got all the features you could want, and then some, and it's also very very easy to use, and ergonomically comfortable.

I'm using a JR-XR2 FM and it does more than what I want it to do.

But...

My friend at the same time picked up a KO EX-I MARS-R and this radio rocks! The feel of the radio, finish and not to mentioned the response with a digital servo. I think it's the best radio I've come acrossed. I'm sure the other radios on the market are just as good or better.... Things will only get better!

i just bought JR XS3 few weeks ago. i love it so much. some guy running the frequency...no prob at all. i just need to turn a few click on the receiver and prob solve. no more frequency clash. but when im setting up the radio...i just notice the word on the top of the screen it said " fine digital accurate 'tunning' ". maybe the guy that type the word made some typo. do u have that on ur radio? i'll borrow my friend's digicam so i can show it to u guys.
