Reinforced diff joints on TB-02 R
Started building my TB-02 R tonight in the cupboard under the stairs to avoid the Mrs and soon came across a problem i'm hoping you guys can help me with.
I bought the reinforced diff joints (53627) as I heard the stock ones were a bit weak. The stock joints have a moulded nut shape in one half to hold the nut so you can tighten up the diff screw/bolt. The reinforced ones do not have this and I can't see any good way of holding that tiny nut all the way down the bottom of the diff joint so I can tighten the bolt.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Mark.

Yes you are... there is a lil lockin thing that holds the nut which is held in the outdrive... im trying to remember which to get it off... try this, might have it on hand actually... look at your body post trees and/or all of them... there should be a piece that has the shape of the nut to be placed inside... if not ima try to look it up... i know the 414m trees has this piece youre lookin for...

Thanks for reply,
I have found what I think your talking about. Small black tube with nut shape in it and little legs that stick out to locate in the outdrive slots, this is listed as unused on the R.
My next problem is that the legs reach the bottom of the outdrive slot before the tool reaches the nut. In the R manual it shows the bolt head tightening up against the bearing and spring with the nut being on it's own on the other side. If I put the nut and bolt around the other way so the nut is up against the bearing the nut will be spaced out by the spring and bearing and maybe I'll be able to get the tool on it.
Do you know which way round it goes on the EVO and there is there a washer under whichever part ends up against the plastic outdrive.
Thanks again.
Mark.

Hmm, if youre talkin bout how to assemble the diff...
Diff screw + Thrust bearing = To the Short outdrive
Diff spring + that black thing for the nut + Lock nut = To the Long outdrive

Ahh, I get you. I thought the black plastic thing was just used to hold the nut whilst you tightened the bolt but it fits behind the nut and stays there.
Thanks for the help.
Regards.

I am currently racing a TL-01 whilst I'm building my TB-02 R to replace it. I only bought the TL-01 to race in the Tamiya Eurocup where that was the only chassis allowed a couple of years back.
I brought it out of the cupboard at the end of last year to start racing a my local club (indoors on carpet) to see if i wanted to race electric again before spending out on a new car. What I was surprised to find (and so were many of the people at the club with Scumkomo's and the likes) was that the TL-01 is a pretty good little car. I normally make the B final and have once made the bottom of the A final which really made people look! don't get carried away, it takes a lot preperation to get a TL-01 to handle this well and it's high centre of gravity makes grip roll a constant reality.
My advice to you if you decide to race the TL-01 is not to do what others have done and spend a fortune on useless and pointless expensive upgrades that will do little to improve the car. I have a carbon propshaft, ballraces, adjustable top arms, plastic oil filled shocks, front roll bar, hard springs(Yokomo GT4) and the lightweight chassis kit.
I have removed some material from the chassis around where the motor mounts to let heat out, removed the battery retainers as they do not work in a crash and are heavy (cells taped in). Cut away most of the front bumper to remove more weight. Car weighs about 1536 grams. mount your speedo at the bottom of the chassis, not on top.
The car generates a massive amount of grip but loses out on punch due to weight of all the gears etc. Hope this helps.
Have fun.
Regards.
Mark.

46 cm long, 13 cm tall and 22cm wide. Bit like a large shoe box really. Should be able to carry the car around in. I've not seen the Evo IV box but I think they were slimmer like a case, no good for transporting the car.

Maybe you might want to consider the Novak XRS Revisible. It has a low price and also it has reverse. That's my opinion. BTW, what motor will you use and what's your budget??

naw, if i get a lower price ESC im getting the explorer II again; i had it for three years and i loved it. im runnin a trinity speedgems pro 15T double wind, and my price range is up to 100 [paying anything more than that to drive in the street/parkinglots seems silly to me...but even 100 is pushing it, right now im leaning towards another EXII...]

TB-02 R build update
well, the R is nearly finished. Haven't had much time to build it as the Mrs found my hiding place but I have a couple of TB-02 questions for you.
The R comes with the lightweight suspension off the Evo IV which looks really nice and stiff but also looks really weak. Is anbody using this suspension set (perhaps on a Evo IV) up and if so how does it stand up to being knocked?
Also, the rear hubs have only got 1 degree of rear toe and the R only comes with the standard TB-02 lower wishbone inner pivot mountings which offer no additional toe in. 1 degree of rear toe does not look enough to handle very well, what does the standard TB-02 have?
Thanks.
Mark.

I have a Evo IV and the suspension is really smooth. Maybe you should get the aluminum suspension mount.
