In the cold trucks will be harder to start, I suggest you put a hot long plug in the 21 and make sure you are not flooding it. This should help out alot. do not change any needle settings if it ran fine yesterday, it should start the same, once running then you can adjust. verify good charge on igniter and good plug.

replace the glow plug, you usually burn up at least one during break-in.

I think 379 was was trying to say get a new glo-plug. In the cold I use a hot plug and it starts easier..they will not last as long as a medium or cold plug in the 25 motor but it will start easier.

There could be lots of reasons, if you can be more specific it would be more helpful to identify your problem.

Is the pull cord hard to pull? If so, then it, it could either be flooded, or the compression is just to great. You can try loosening the glow plug a little, start it up, and then tighten it back up.

Check your glow plug.

Make sure your glow igniter is charged/new battery.

Reset carb needles to default factory recommended settings.

Make sure you primed it enough.

Good luck!

I agree with rodf911. Add to that, be sure that you've sealed the engine. The Savage .25 is notorious for having air leaks. It's a good idea to remove the engine to check the backplate screws anyway (to be sure they are loc-tited in). Get some Permatex copper (oxygen-safe stuff) sealer. Seal the backplate and the carb. It's also good to lube the o-rings on your HSN, LSN and idle screw.

If air leaks isn't the problem and you're not flooding it, pre-heat the head with a blow dryer, then give it a few pulls. If it doesn't want to start, give it about 1/4 throttle for a few pulls. It should start right up. Otherwise, check those needle settings again:

Idle screw: with the filter off, there should be right at a 2mm gap showing.
HSN: 4.5 turns out from bottom
LSN: flush with the carb body

You can also check out the Savage-Central forums. Lots of info there for the Savage.
