Looking to get a nitro stadium truck
Hey guys,
I'm no newbie to r/c cars, however I have been taking a break for about a year. I come back and many things are different. Brushless motors are out, and these forums look totaly different. I used to have alot of feedback in the trader section and now it's all gone. Anyways, I want to get back into r/c with a nitro stadium truck. Before I left and after all the r/c I have owned I want to try associated. It seems like the best brand because I have never heard of 1 person complain about them, and so many people are bias towards them (there has to be a reason for this). So I was thinking of getting the Associated RC10GT Plus RTR for $269. This seems like a great price because it's cheaper than the Rustler, almost as much as the traxxas nitro sport, and as much as the Duratrax Evader RTR, but from a well known brand associated. Thing is, I see associated came out with the T4 and B4, so how long will this RC10GT be around before it's discontinued or obsolete? Is there anything coming out in the nitro stadium truck world for this price?

It will be a very long time before the GT goes obsolete, trust me on that.
For the price it cant be beat imo, and its built like a tank and can bash and race with the best of them. My dad and I both own GT's and have NEVER regretted buying them.
I may be biased but it is a great deal for the money and basically all hobby shops stock parts for them

It comes with ball bearings, right? What are the CVD it comes with, isn't there something better? I'm looking at this page http://www.rcnitro.com/rn/articles/ht_btruck2.asp It says UNIVERSAL JOINT AXLES are the best for cars, does this truck come with them? Does tower hobbies sell upgrades?

I believe the GT comes with universals. As far as upgrades, Not sure if tower sells upgrades but places like
www.stormerhobbies.com
will sell plenty of upgrades. Other cars you may want to consider are the Team Losi XXX-NT and the Duratrax Evader. The Losi is more race oriented and the Evader is IMO the best basher out there. It'll last you forever...and com'on now, it's got a .18 in it. That's just cool

I had an Evader and it was pretty good but not quite as durable as my RC10GT rtr plus. I would recommend the GT. They are very tough and you can get tons of part for them. The XTM X-Cellorater is alright too. Once agiain, keep the RC10GT in mind.

The stock GT + comes with doggies. First thing you have to do is put a 1/8" piece of fuel tubing in each of the outdrives. That way the dogbones will never fall out unless you pop a turnbuckle. It's the best truck i've ever owned

After I did that little fuel tubbing trick, the dogbones don't even come close to slipping out.

My MT2 is still running strong after 3 months of bashing and jumping.
The only parts ive broken were an upright that I boke twice because I need to learn how to control my attitude when im in the air during a jump.
But, considering that Ive landed the car flat on its face on rocks that are about 10" in diameter and ive only broken two parts... Id say thats pretty good.
I was going to get aluminum arms, but I haven't broken one yet.
I also stripped a spur once becuase I left the motor screw loose, but that's my own stupidity.
The MT2 is a great stadium truck, imho.
There aren't that many good 4wd STs out there, and none of them have the huge LHS support that HPI has.
But anyways... yeah the GT is also awesome.
I was supposed to be getting one for the summer, and I might still do it, but for now, my financial situation isn't exactly flourishing.
When I have more money (probably after I finish this job Im on right now) Im going to do a full-on Big Block conversion for my MT2, with HD everythings.
The Epic thats bound for the MT2 will then go into a new GT so that I can overpower it like a 350 in a Datsun and spin out a few hundred times

oh yea the GT is an awesome truck. It is very race compatible and is also more durable than the average race truck. aftermarket parts through the roof so you can customize and make it a killer truck.

TRUST me tower hobbies has aftermarket parts!!! I am hoping to buy $200 in hopups alone from tower since if you spend more then 200 you get $20 off. I havent driven my GT in about a month, stripped a engine block bolt (on the bottom of the chassis) and am too lazy to dremel it so I can use a flathead to get it out, I need to get a new engine since my ae .15 is pretty much dead, and my gear mesh is way off and I cant adjust it because....? I'm lazy and havent used my dremel to unstrip the screw . I have been pretty busy with school and helping my dad paint our neighbors house (his little side job and I want to make money so shabam!) so I havent gotten around to driving my r/c's. Oh ya I also blew a clutch bell bearing because I started it up last week and forgot the mesh was off..
I would say you cant really go wrong with an xcellerator or GT but none of the lhs's around me carry parts for xtm, so it really depends on what your lhs carries parts for Oh and if you do get a gt, break it in, get used to driving it and if you want more speed..Yank out the evil carb restrictor!!! You gain tons of power and all you need are needle nose pliars!

You can pull it out with your fingernails..
Just richen the bottom end 1 turn and the top end 2 turns.. that should get you to a decent RICH setting.

dude if your looking for hop ups for the GT check out RC Boyz. www.rcboyz.com they stock pretty much every single RPM part for the GT in any color and cheaper than anywhere else too. Service and deliver is top notch as well. the only complaint is their useless search browser. you search for a product and it comes up with something completely off topic. Anyway their inexpensive prodcut and fast deliver makes up for that, easily.

Hey, speaking of that carb restrictor... How fast does the GT go with it.
I got a GT RTR new and it didnt have a restrictor in it. It was tuned and run without it from the begining. So i dont really know anything about it. But my friend just got a new GT RTR and i was helping him break it in and i was ust wondering about the restrictor.

Just yank the thing out. I really don't know how fast it goes with the restrictor because I yanked it out before I ever ran the thing. Without it, it goes about 42 or 43 if it is real lean. Gets there quick too.

the restrictor doesn't really restrict the top speed, it just spaces out the powerband so you dont have too much power on tap, it evens out the power so you can control the car easier and better. if you like a more sensitive throttle thats mainly what you get when the restrictor is removed. You get a bit more top end but its not really that significant if you engine is already running well. You may be able to afford running a bit leaner with out a restrictor because the engine is getting that much more air, keeping it cooler.
Alot of pros use restrictors due to the fact that their engines are ported for max. power and are INSANE. especially .21's in buggies and 1/8th scale on-road. you give it a generous amount of power without a restrictor and you can lose control much easier. Anyway thats pretty much the jist on a restrictor.

And I will be glad to point out that you are....Wrong!
Well atleast in my case, my GT is has SOOO much more frigging top-end then it did with the restrictor. Before I had it in it was a pretty mediocre truck but when I took it out it would wheely in grass and has a lot more top-speed like I already mentioned. Maybe my engine is "special" but the top-speed increase is extremely noticeable.
When my AE .15 was tuned perfectly I could hang with my dads GT that has an OS .15 cv-rx when it was tuned perfectly. Hopefully that is to some help of the people wanting to know how much faster it goes w/o the restrictor. I would guess it hits 40mph really easily

No, im not.
Top speed has nothing to do with horsepower.
Go read the thread about the CEN CT4 if you want proof.
The only time more power gives you more top end is if that power helps the engine reach higher rpms.
Even in an odd case, that would be like a 5% increase.
In our motors, the components are so light that they have more than enough power to spin them up.
You think you have more top speed, but you dont.
You have more acceleration.
They are two completely different things.
