Watched open MT race, brushless wins it.
I stopped by the local track on Sunday to watch a couple rc races. The touring cars were of course wicked fast. Then the monster trucks came out and yet again I was convinced that brushless is superior to nitro.
A guy was running a truggy, 14 cells, emaxx suspension, don't know what motor. He ran against the nitros and absolutely smoking them. Down the back straight the big blocks were about the same in speed, but through the corners the guy just had so much more control. And the punch out of the corners was impressive.
After practicing for a while they tried to start the race. By then the nitro trucks started stalling and it took forever to get the trucks on the starting grid. One guy who was good at practice flamed out on the grid and didn't race. Meanwhile the brushless is just chilling on the line waiting for the beep. When it came it was wheelie time and that was the last of it.

Do you know what the other MT's were out there? I was bashing around a couple of weeks ago and took two 46 savages with 3 speeds down a 200 foot straight. I had an emaxx with a feigao 9L with 14 cells (cheap cells at that). I was able to out accelerate them both and then we all had the same top end speed (they were about 15 to 20 feet behind me).

Yea the top speed seemed similar, but the electric has that low end punch to get things moving.
Other trucks were 2 revos, t-maxx, and savage I think.

I love reading these reports when BL dominates!!! I got second place out of 5 contenders this past sunday racing on a big outdoor track (190' back stretch) against 9T, 10T, 11T, and 12T brushed motors touring class 6 cell sedan. my schulze/lehner combo performed very well regardless of my tendecy to overgear my motors...

Nice. Last weekend I was bashing with a few guys. I couldn't keep up with the Jato or modded Mt2's (mainly because the Mt2's handled better than my maxx around corners), but i was able to outperform a Tmaxx with a kyosho racing .15 engine pretty easily. Almost all of the guys I bash with run nitro. They can't believe the speed and acceleration I get out of the brushless system. They don't even know that it is brushless until everyone else shuts down and they only hear the quiet speed of the electric motor.

you gotta love that when they dont even know until everyone else shuts down. I have that happen sometimes when I race, cause I end up in the 1/10th scale gas class since there are not that many electrics. The marshals go to flip my car over and think it stalled so they go to take it off until you just have to hit the throttle to let them know.

That's cool that they allow you to race with the nitros. I've heard many complain on this forum about how their tracks won't allow them to run in the nitro classes. It's good that some tracks will let you run with them or even create an open race class so nitro and electric can go head to head.

Yup, I was trying to get my shop to allow multi class races, like 1:1 Le Mans. They run probably 6 different classes at the same time, and then break down the race by class afterwards. I think that would be cool, cause the more cars on the track the better, and the guys who bring multi cars will just have to choose a favorite.
So I'm not too familiar with larger brushless setups as I just run a mamba, but does it seem to you that brushless motors really whistle? I'm trying to get where I can tell if its BL or brushed off the sound.
Its just a matter of time for this hobby to switch to lipo/bl and nitro. Nitro will always have a place in the hobby, there is a certain thrill of the sound, smoke, and tuning. But I don't see how brushed motors or nickel based batteries will stick around. Especially when toshiba is making noise about 1-5 minute charge times on lipos in the near future. We'll be able to charge just as fast as that nitro can refuel soon.

I was just out bashing today and tried 16 cells in my maxx. I could hardly believe the speed I got out of 2 more cells. I ran with my buddy who has an NMT and an MT2. The NMT is set up for racing and he claims that he can just about hang with a Jato on a long straight. I was able to take him off the line rather easily (as electrics always do) and then we had about the same top end speed. The more I drive Brushless the more uninteresting nitro looks.
