On-board glow plug ignitor ?

I was thinking of an idea for my 13yr old to make starting his Nitro buggy a bit easier....

Instead of using a standard glowplug igniter, why not just have a rechargeable AA mounted in the buggy somewhere, and connected to a momentary pushbutton (near the base of the wing?). I was thinking of the Traxxas EZ-Start method, with the wire connected to the glow plug, and the negative connected to the motor mount.

So all you would need to do is push down on the button and kick over the buggy with the Roto-Start.

Perhaps have a little LED to provide battery status?

Well you could use a booster cable to do this, and an extra channel to activate the roto start. The best solution is for Dad to learn how to tune the engine so it doesn't stall on him. <snicker>

Hey!

Well, the last go-around was with some Losi XXX-NT's (first edition) and they just could not hold a tune. I guess I'll let him try the glow-plug igniter\roto start combo for a while, as long as he remembers to take off the glow plug igniter.

I remember turning around and seeing the truck going around the track with my igniter still on it
