elmo have you used those rally tires before? If so how do they hold up? I've got a tc3 shortened and lifted to convert it into a 1/16th scale offroad and I keep destroying tires...
At the moment I'm using mini quake split-block tires but on grass they last about 4 packs before they become slicks. I'm only using a novak ss5800 on 6 cells at the moment but I've got some a123 3s li-ion packs coming (when they arrive I'll put the car on here; I think it qualifies). With the li-ions I think tire life will only get worse.

edit: oh and I forgot to mention that you guys are all insane.. how often are your cars not broken because I can imagine a lot of broken suspension arms and shock towers with so much power (not to mention diffs and spur gears!).

All metal tranny on my Rustler right here! HPI CF spur too, so no problems there either.

I dont get enough traction right now to worry about broken transmission parts.

Here are the body off pics that were requested, with a small addition on the rear:

And heres a small video of it in action:

55.7mph, geared 24/83 w/ mamba 4600 on 4s lipo, with traxxas anaconda 2.8 rear tires. I could probably gear up quite a bit, acceleration is traction limited up to about 35-40, but Im planning on running bigger tires soon.

My TC4 has not had a drivetrain problem with the exception of one broken diff screw. But, that was not horsepower related, merely a bad screw.

I htink most super high horsepower cars rely on wheel spin to save the drive train. I have seen 84MPH in 2 seconds with my TC4 without breaking anything.

I am currently building an RC10L4 with a "Big Block" Neu 1512/2Y on 12S TP Extremes (4HP at 4 pounds). I will post pics of that car as I get it together.

I agree. A certain amount of hook is a good thing. But, too much breaks parts.

The L4 will be running a hand made CF wedge body and a hand made CF chassis that seals to the body. It is being built for top speed competition.

Isn't brushless fantastic? Forget nitro, this is a blast?

dude brushless rock... it seems there is to limit to the amount of $$ one can put into these things and at the same time no limit to the power... i got cells that are supposed to put out 138A... now you could wire in parallel or series and pull pretty much any amount of power you needed... and some of these BL motors are sick... 4hp... iuhno i mean ya can go multi cylinder nitro but this is ust so much easier... i wish ya luck on the toip speed running... i sorta gave up on that.. i mean it is cool but recently it seems ust having a blast basking with asick toy is more fun.. i mean if ya want top speed you end up with a purpose built machine that if it doesn't succeed it breaks... at least mine did.. maybe if this version hold together i'll tune it for speed but right now ust bring on the pain...

Yes, the gyro works great in the car. I do run heading hold mode. It is fine. Honestly, you need a really good gyro for high speed, though. I have a GY611 that works best. But, it is extremely expensive.

Top speed is fun, but it requires alot of dedication. I already have alot of bashing around cars as well. So, the 3 top speed cars I am working on are just extra cars that I want to explore the extreme. ;D

If anyone has any questions, PM me and I will shoot you my number. I am more than willing to give you any info I can on what I have researched.

Matt

Elmo,

I just realized who you are. You were posting on that "Other" forum.

That thing looks absolutely fantastic.

Oh, I have ahd fantastic luck with my Thunder Power extreme 2070 cells. They are good for 110 amps and lighter than the round li-ion cells. However, I am not sure what the longevity would be compared to your round cells.

Ahh, gotcha.

My 2070s are 55 grams per cell. So, 110 grams for a 2S pack.

elmo_cecil, how did you figure that you'll get 910watts out of a 2s A123 pack? At 100amps each cell will be at about 2v. I could see each cell putting out a maximum of about 250watts, for 500watts in a 2s setup. Although that will still be too much for an 1/18 .

That's 3.3v nominal . When pumping out about 60amps, their voltage drops to about 2.2v.

Mod Man:
thx..
i have an GY611 myself, using in my heli in F3C-mode

i thought for myself to try a gyro (GY401, its cheaper) in my Losi XXX-4 buggy...
but wondering, if it would work with all the play you have in a car (specially a offroad-buggy) compared to virtually no play in the tail-steering of a heli
for heading-hold: you controll the speed of turning with that, unimportant which underground you are driving at... does it feel much different to normal steering ?

@elmo_cecil and tcolesen:

1000Watt out of 2s ?
donīt think so

here some real-world-data, 4s1p A123 in my Heli,
batts were charged with 8A and had time to rest for 30min
(when used warm, the results would be a little better than shown on the diagram)

so i would say, the 500Watt tcolesen mentioned for 2s are more on the right side

you can see for the peaks (which are similar to rc-car), that
at 60A the voltage is slightly over 2.5Volt per cell

here the same diagramm for WATT and used mah:
