36" Aeromarine Questions

Hi everyone.. I recently pulled a 36" aeromarine sprint cat out of the rafters in my garage. I last ran this boat probably around 1993 or 1994. I would like to get it going again, but I need to purchase a few things and also have some questions.

It has a K&B .82 that was sitting with after run oil in the cylinder, but after all these years what do I need to do to get it going again?

The drive collet is broken, but I am not sure what one I need to order.. I see there are 2 sizes 1/4 and .187, do I measure the flex shaft or the flex shaft tube to determine size?

The servos seem to have the newer style futaba plug, but are they compatible with the new FM receivers and radios?

How can I strip off the old paint without harming the hull? Someone suggested brake fluid, but that didn't take of the paint very well.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

To get the engine running again I would say all that is needed is a fresh glo-plug and some fresh fuel, but I'm not much on nitro engines so someone else may could recomend better what to do.

to get the shaft size measure the diameter of the flex shaft itself to be positive which size you have

To get the old paint off it would be best to sand it off instead of using a stripper. The reason being is that if the stripper gets into the fiberglass itself it is very difficult to get it to go away and not come back to bite you.

Hope this is of some help.

i would pull the motor apart, and give it a good cleaning, and inspect while you are at it. Check the bearings make sure they are smooth. If the sleeve looks good and theres still a good 'click' at TDC then its good to go.

Should be a screamer with a .82 in a sprintcat, my team believer (based off sprint cat) with k&b .67 ran just over 51mph on 10%.

thanks

Thanks for the advice. I currently have the boat apart. I have sanded off the old paint and will be painting it this weekend. I ran 50% in it before and probably only had 5-6 tanks run through it after break in. If anyone has advice on how this boat should be set up it would be appreciated. When it took it apart the centerline of the prop was about even with the bottom of the sponsons. Is this a good place to start?

my cat has pretty much the same bottom as the sprint cat, just different deck. The way i set my strut is the bottom of strut level with bottom of sponsons.

Sit the boat on a flat table and drop the strut down til its flat on the table, then tighten it down. Then adjust from there.

I've got a 36" Sprintcat. I started with an OPS .67, but when that threw the rod, broke the piston, and bent the liner all in one event, I replaced it with an OS.81. Toward the end of last season I finally started getting it dialed in. It can keep up with just about any gas cat and out handle them in the turns. The only limitation is that since it is smaller, it can't handle the chop quite as well.

The bottom of my strut is also set to be even with the bottom of the sponsons.

Your shaft should be 1/4". If it's .187, it would be a good idea to replace the shaft and stuffing tube with the thicker size before you break it. If you need K&B parts, contact Gary Preusse at G&M Models at 630-279-2451.

I had a 40" Dumas Skater with a OPS .80 motor.
it would snap 0.187" cables if you jumped down on the throttle suddenly.
So you need to use a 1/4" cable with a turned down shaft (0.187 propshaft)
