When I was moving I discovered that I still had an original BoLink legend car unused in box. I am a total noob to the R/C and was wondering would this be usuable in the Rosewood legend class? If so, what would I need to get it running for the class, i.e. motor, battery etc. Apologies if this was answered before.

Most definitly! The Legend class is alive and kicking on the oval track. You will need to run that kit just the way it came: Stock!
-Motor is a Tamiya 540-J (silver can) brushed motor.
-Battery is an SMC 4000mah 25C LiPo battery and you'll need a small 220mah 2S LiFe or equivilant receiver pack to provide the steering power.
-Tires are yellow stripe spec foams (Johns BSR makes a great set (1 front blue, 1 front green, and 2 rear greens that are perfect)
I probably forgot something.. but somebody will chip in here....

We ended up with six legends this past Saturday, class seems to be holding up pretty good. I also noticed you posted on the barn thread about the MLM class, we raced them at the Wood a couple of years ago. I have a losi I would like to race again, just need to find others that want to race them.

Hey guys- anyone have experience writing to some of the RC companies? I want to write to HPI and have them sponsor some part of our GT class for the 7 race series. This way the GT drivers wouldn't have to pay as much and we could allow some newbies to race for less.
Plus they might donate some bodies to give out, and other stuff.
I figure its worth a shot................
Any other companies that it might make sense to hit up?

Good idea Tim, here are a few companies to ask.
Tekin, Novak, Protoform, Solaris, Futaba, JR, Pactra Paint, Associated, Losi, Great Planes, Horizon hobby, Dynamite, IRS, Tamiya America, Compitition Electronics, RJ Speed, Castle Creations, Thunder Power, SMC, Calandra, MSA, Team Epic, Lunsford, Traxxas, BRP, Deans Connectors, Niftech, Jack the Gripper, Proline, Jaco, Integy and BSR just to name a few. If you write them a nice letter telling them we buy and support their products at Rosewood and send them a flyer of the series with the sponsors listed on it, they will give you their products for the race. Even if it's just a body or tires, it's one more item to give away to the racers for their support. Thanks for taking the lead on this and good luck.
Glenn
ps. Anyone else know of a business in your town that might sponsor this series don't be afraid to ask them. All they can do is say no, but they might say yes. We have been given gift certificates from resturants for races. So get out there and ask, lets make this a great series.

Hmm, what issues Jimmy? I havn't had any with my T.O.P. ,,,yet.
I'd like to go to the race in Tn, this weekend but some things have come up so I wont be going. I'm sorry Mike.
I finished putting my stock exhaust on my Suzuki, Glenn you'll be surprised at how quiet it is now.
On road again so soon? Man, I must be dreaming!! Hopefully, I'll be able to sneak away from the family stuff,,,,

I'll write a generic letter, and change the 'to' filed. Its like a resume for our club LOL.
Actually Justin Lessard- are you able to get in contact w/ TOP ?
I just want to ask for generic parts, shirts, hats, etc and NOT money as that would probably be a big turn off. Banners, pit towels, etc are cool too.
Glenn- you will stay pay out the top 3 in a class at your track correct?
I'm also going to hit up some other hobby shops if that is OK with you, but I don't want a conflict to happen with that. I have a decent relationship w/Toy Town in Fuquay but they have their own track that does off-road already........

Yeah, I got the RC18LM as a gift. I currently just use it to mess around with, but would love to race it. Unfortunately, it seems the only places that run the minis are too far and only run 2WD Losi's which rules me out.
I was suprised to see that Legends were still running someplace. I bought mine years ago and planned on running it until work got in the way. When I found my old one still in the box I figured I would look into racing it.
Like I said I am a noob when it comes to this stuff and would need to get the electronics, reciever and motor for it. I also heard that the stock front ends were junk on these and I would probably need to adress that as well.

Running 4WD and 2WD together wouldn't be an issue for me, not sure if there would be an advantage either way on a carpet or paved oval. I always enjoyed running 18th scale, I now have a collection of 3 Mini Sliders. The Legends cars we run out of the box except for turnbuckles for the steering and bearings in the wheels and axles are the only exceptions.

I would suggest the letters going out real soon and to stress that this is a series. most companies will send things out to "races" but I don't know how they'll do things with a series. But they do seem sometimes to take their sweet time sending things out. I sent letters out once a month before a race and got some stuff the week after the race.

This is the race I held last year, just scroll down to middle page to see the race flyer I made up along with most of the main sponsorships listed.
http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/show...=259264&page=3
Before you approach companies for sponsorship, you need to make sure you have all the race details sorted out and outlined. Dates, classes, expected turn out, and a completed race flyer that can be faxed or emailed to them.
Most of the companies you contact that agree to a prize donation will do this once per year. So If you have other races planned for the future, those who have already sponsored a race held by a track won't be available to do it again until the following year. So some planning would come into play to not exhaust whats available too early on if other events were to be planned in th e future.

Well, lets see if RW will have a bigger single race this year. I could wait a little longer and do our Oct race as 'the event' if need be.

I do think that the prizes should be given away at the SERIES FINAL.
AND I don't think we need to go crazy on the amount of give aways.
Every person entered in the final gets one ticket and the prizes given away as a random drawing.

I have to say, there is a good chance I won't be making the Sept and Oct races..... due to deployment.. but as always, my future is never set in stone and anything can happen.

well that is not good news Eric- good luck in Libya (by then........)
I will wait until after we get started, get some group pictures, pictures of our racing, etc and get a flier put together for the last race of the season.
THEN I will contact some companies. Probably in August or so, should be plenty of time for October.
Final race will be called "The Down East Duel"
Meanwhile, who is coming to Rosewood on Saturday??

I plan to be there Saturday, but probably won't get there until around 10AM.
Even if we don't officially "race"... I can use the practice

Eric, your service is well appreciated as it is for all our fine members of the U.S. forces.
I hope you can make the races, but if not; I wish you a safe and speedy return.
