Losi 1/18-scale Mini Late Model

Losi just released an 1/18-scale Mini Late Model. Here is word from Losi:

Losi brings the circle track excitement of late model racing to the mini RC category with the Mini-Late Model. Based on the proven performance of Losi's extended mini-vehicle platform, the Mini-Late Model offers several performance features and a true-to-life body design. From the dirt track to the driveway, the Mini-Late Model's size and handling will have you speeding through the corners anywhere and everywhere.

Seriously,.....

how many more 1/18th scale cars/trucks is Losi going to make????? It's almost sad at this point. I'm not saying this isnt a cool little car, but good grief man, they have more models out now than some REAL car companies!

time to sit back, and think about something a bit different. How about going scale? a nice C.O.O.R. style truck maybe.......

ANYTHING!!!!

i can already see next month's hot news:

"Losi introduces its new "mini-mini micro lst/slider/t/late model/ramminator/baja/DT/ whatever you want to call it"...

As long as they don't stretch it even more, put axle extenders on it, and try to pass it off as a 1/12 or 1/14 scale truck, I'm good.

I kinda like this car, but where's the fun in doing it like this. I'd rather they released a kit to turn a mini-t into a slider/late model/ice cream truck/whatever then sell them each as a separate vehicle.

Guys, I hate to burst your bubble, but any brand is going to sell what sells. If Losi can sell more cars by repackaging a few platforms with slightly different specs and cosmetics, they're gonna do it. If it's not for you, that's fine, but if everybody else is buying them, Losi will keep churning them out. It's just business, it's not a philosophical thing or a diss against whatever it is you wish they would make more of. Look at it this way: RTRs and minis pay for lower-volume kits and competition cars!

Good point Pete, and I can respect Losi wanting to make money-who doesn't. Just seems in this day, you need to bring something to the table with some "pop" to it.

When the debuted the micro-t, now THAT was hot. so was the Mini-t when it came out, and paving the way to all other minis to come. Kudo's to them.

I look on it almost as what Traxxas had done with the Xl-5 series. They didn't do much after the Stampede/Rustler's inception in 94 to make a big change. Appearance, and some minor tweeks. just seems like after 11 years, they could have done more. I guess Losi did make big news with the 8ight, now that I think about it.

P.S., Pete, you have mail!

In your RC world, oval anything may not be very interesting. However, there are areas in the country where it is big. And that is where this will be popular. I bet many of the oval only crowd look at the Micro/Mini Ts and say...ehhh, whereas you say " now THAT was hot". I know of an oval close by me, and I actually hope to be able to visit sometime this summer. Offroad 1/8 is what is predominantly popular around here, but this and the Slider may open a few eyes.

I agree, I want to see new models from them, they keep putting new bodies and wheels on old models. I wish they would at least hook one of their mini's up with brushless and Li-Po, I think they should also make a 4wd mini-t platform and maybe a sealed-belt belt drive system, i think that it would be the first belt drive mini if they did make one.

AE did the same thing with the 18 platform. As Pete said it's just business. I too would like to see them release a conversion kit for the mini T, slider or late model. Maybe save a few coins over buying the individule parts, and the hasle of finding out which ones are needed.

HAHA... I'm not going to comment.
Other than that I said 4 new Losi minis in 2008. This is #4... And we're only in march.

And yes, it's good for the hobby because most of it sells. But seriously, they need to stop flooding the market. Hobby shops are going to be stuck with these things, which by the way, seem to have slowly been losing quality over the past few months. It's kind of making me nervous.

WHOA!

I am all for something new, but show me something NEW! Look at Tamiya with the Blackfoot/Subaru brat/monster beetle/grasshopper/Hornet/super hornet/ ect/ect/ect/ect...that all used the SAME chassis but with what?? different tires and body. to me, that isnt new.

Losi does build some great stuff, no doubt about it. But, this being March, how many more cars/trucks will come out based on the mini-t this year?? Why not pour that R&D cash into a 4WD to compete with the AE18T's???

This looks pretty good. I like the scale look thats pretty much non existent in our hobby.
Now if they made a Baja Truck with that scale look then that would really be hot. Also a mini XXXS would be tight.

One more thing. You do have to admit that Losi does come out with their own vehicles. I may get flamed for this but Assosiated's nitro trucks like the MGT 8.0 and 3.0 are from ThunderTiger, Their RC8 looks like a LRP nitro buggy and I don't know why there are so many RC18 clones. So Losi does pretty much their own homework so to speak. Just my opinion which I could be wrong.

As far as spec class racing. If it was 1/10 scale I`ld say it would be good but the 1/18 scale especially the losi stuff sucks as there is so much SLOP in the parts and dang near impossible to hit the exact same line ever lap. Lazy servo- sloppy front end and Oh ya the shocks that leak like crazy. My boys and I ran 3 sliders and while they had no breaking issues we had to run BOX STOCK for a spec class. Parts are too small for a young kid to work on them decent also.. ya they were fast and such but if Losi would make these in 1/10 scale it would fill a baddly needed spec class nich that is missing in 1/10 scale racing.

at our track we ran a box stock slider class and at the beginning of the season a bunch of people were going to run them. it never materialized and the ones that did all hated the slop and hard to work on small parts.

Come on Losi ( or should I say Horizon) pull you head out and get some 1/10 scale stuff like this and then we are talking!

I had a chance to check one of these out at the local hobby shop recently. I understand that it's labeled as a 1/18th scale car, but it's pretty big - the body is pretty close to the size of a 1/12th scale pan car, if not larger. Pretty cool, though. If I were interested in racing oval, either this or Losi's Sprint car would be my first car - can't beat the price.
