I’m sure your readers are asking, “Wouldn’t this be the 5th truck?” The reason we’ve called this new product the Blackfoot III is due to it being the third kit using the original “step-side” body.

I said this 6 years ago.....RTR's took the "hobbyist" equation out of the Radio Control formula ..

Right you are my friend......right you are. Saw it comming when I was working at my LHS......it's a sad world now.

About the new Avante truck.....Looks nice....but Tamiya replaced all the nice metal parts from the Avante with plastic (even the shocks) and it costs more than the Avante buggy! Kinda ridiculous if you ask me. Horizon dropped it from their lineup.....(the truck that is).....probablt due to it's cost.

Thanks....I was told I was crazy at the time...I could probably dig up some of those old posts, lol...

Thre is no doubt it was good for sales...but it destroyed the "hobbyist" base....

I was told I was crazy too.....well.....still am.... RTR's are good for the industry for reducing overall costs, but it eliminated a lot of kits and took away the pleasure of building something and replaced it with the frustration of dealing with sub-par quality building. Not many kits left out there. Enjoy them before they're gone! I am designing up my own vehicles and machining any specialty parts on my tabletop Sherline 8-axis mill. I buy what parts I can and make the rest.

You aren't crazy.. but I think the hobbyist base is still out there somwhere. Brushless began with hobbyists tinkering with stuff they were told only belonged in aircraft, or that batteries wouldn't hold up and would explode..

Okay, so so after a few puffy cells and burned vehicles we now have a new standard. Conversion kits will soon give way to purpose-built 1/8 scale bugges and then 1/8 on-road will follow.

What kills everything is when crap rolls down off the assembly line AND is overpriced as well.

If I owned Tamiya, and asked 10 people from these forums what car they'd like to see out next and actually made each 10 ideas.. Not one would be as bad as the Vajra. Maybe 2 would cost as much to make a decent profit off of (based on msrp currently listed) and perhaps all 10 would actually perform.

With a set of upgraded shock towers, Up to 4" shocks are possible. That's the set up I have - works awesome and well worth the investment.

Otherwise, just get a ruler and measure out the stockers eye to eye and find something close lengthwise.

That's great info, thanks! Gonna order some off eBay now & some 100mm shocks. What about a better motor & pinion size? Something fast that won't shread the gears ;-)

Stock pinion and a mild brushless would be good. Gears will be ok, but the outdrives and dogbones can only take so much.

Hi all, just wanted 2 let u know, i bought a blackfoot lll & have really loved building her! My 1st kit since thunder shot 1st came out! Lol. I agree with some comments, but have upgraded so many parts, she is now a beauty! 4x4 too! I found all parts i needed on eBay for good prices. (They are same as wild dagger & twin detonator!) moving on to my next build, 2010 Holiday Buggy! ;-)
