Please tell me I'm not the only one doing this

Hey guys,

Anybody else out there do any conversions with New Bright vehicles? You know, fitting a new motor, radio, etc on them. I've done it twice already, broke both cars from the sheer power of the motor...they were fun while they lasted, though.

Just a bit of late night curiosity, that's all.

conversions

i have been doing conversions buti think the trick is to stay within the boundaries of what the vehicle can handle ..remember they are toys and cannot handle the power of real motors ..its like putting a 500hp engine in a pinto and not modifying the driveline..i did a batmobile well an friend of mine did the conversion for me and it has been great i posted a thread here with it and i also have a youtube video of it under 1966 r/c batmobile 1/18scale

Yeah, I've slowly learned that. The next conversion I do, I'm going to have good, steel (or aluminum) gears milled before I really crank it up. That's what killed the last one. First one was just the fact that it has press-on wheels.

Closest I come is taking the bodies off and custom building a chassis underneath.

Maybe I should start doing that, just so it can take the torque of those motors I put in them.

EDIT: Okay, turning this into a planning thread. I'm a college student right now, so I can't do much at all, but once I get a job and money...

Anyway, here's what we've got: . Same color, everything.

Plans are a Losi motor and ESC combo that has already killed 2 New Bright-style cars: One sanded the inside of press-on wheels after a month of being able to do donuts at half throttle, the other one (a truck) cracked the main gear in 3 spots after 3 days of being able to backflip on command.

Anyway, the motor, ESC, Futaba 4 channel radio....CH3: Off/Parking lights/Headlights (all momentary), and CH4: High beams/Off/Neon (all toggles)...and a water cooled motor...partially to add a bit of weight, the car is light as is, and it'll be balanced more forward to keep my steering. You know, water cooled motor...water jacket, pump, radiator, fan.

That's what I have so far, but I'm open to suggestions! Anybody?
