super bodies

yeah, you are right.i think i will just stick with my 2 racer 2'2.theres plenty of cool bodies for them.way to much drama in trying to score one of these bodies.not enough wheel selection either.

, well the problem for us few that are in the club is we have to deal with the drama. You will find that there are some that can't let go of their Supers. Even though I don't race mine any longer, I could never part with it.

Check it - paint has been stripped.

Got some fogginess, hopefully it'll disappear with the paint. Any paint scheme suggestions?

That's the thing, there aren't enough of them to race anymore. Put it this way, when I was racing mine, we had a constant of like 14 to 20 guys who had them. So we always had enough for two heats and then qualifying for the A-main.

Then you had the HPI challenges where you had about 30 guys show up for this class. Man those were the days

Keep us posted. I would like to see how it turns out. I can't help you with the paint scheme as I'm struggling myself for coming up with a paint scheme for one that I want to keep for myself.

Judging by the way the body flows front-to-back, I think I'll be doing a three-color scheme. The front of the car has pretty distinct 'depths' for the nose, fenders, and body in between. I'll probably assign a color to each portion and carry them through to the back.

What colors those will be, I'm not sure. I have gold, white, silver, and black paint on hand but I was planning to use the gold and white on a different shell. Red, white, and black usually look good together but I think gold, white, and black could be interesting as well.

Magnus, did you use DOT 4 brake fluid? When I removed mine I did not have any fogging with it. I know DOT 3 caused fogging in some cases. Keep us posted on the paint job. I am currently creating the decals for the Monster car, then it is on to a super body.

It's "DOT 3 and 4" (both, apparently) brake fluid. Upon inspection the fogginess appears to be soap scum or something that can be cleaned off, so I'll get on it when I have more time.

Just picked up an unpainted Diablo for $75 shipped, figured that's about market price so I might as well.

I would say that's about right. There is a Murceilago on ebay that is currently going for 75.00 shipped.

I figured out the fogginess today- I'm pretty sure it was just dried brake fluid that was left over when I left the body to soak overnight. A paper towel and a dab of fresh fluid got rid of most of pretty quickly.

However, when I wiped down the body with a wet (with water) paper towel before starting to tape things off, the residue seemed to reappear. Not sure what to do, so I just taped the body up anyway.

I'm going to do a three-color scheme. The fenders and sides, which are all one region, are going to be black. The nose piece, which flows around the cockpit and makes up the top surface of the shell, is going to be white. The depressed regions between the nose and fenders is going to be gold, as will the cockpit. It's going to taper off into a teardrop shape seen from above.

I've finished taping off the white and gold areas, and I plan to hit it with black tomorrow. We're suppose to have mid-40s temperatures, so if I let the cans warm up I should be able to get at least the black done without problems.

Unpainted 350Z body currently at $102 on eBay. This is getting ridiculous for thin sheets of lexan. Anyone interested in taking a negative mold of these bodies, finding a thermoforming machine, and making these ourselves? We would make a killing.

Yeah, those sweet pre-painted bodies that CONTENDER was offering were an absolute steal!!! I'm SOOOOOOOO glad I snatched up that Lancer EVO - thanks Contender!

Some johnny-come-lately's like ME are quietly putting together a collection, though it's become increasingly harder with a new wave of enthusiasts (or collectors) out there.

So far, the Supers I've been able to RESCUE:

2 Lancer EVO's
1 F-150
1 Porsche
1 GT-ONE
1 Alfa 156

An Alfa huh, Nice. I did one last year that came out really nice:

I know I said the next thing that I paint will end up being a 300mm Supra body, but I'm having second thoughts. I might end up painting a GT-1 body next. Decisions decisions.

Speaking of which, I just wrapped up my first color on the GT-1 recovery project, which was black. The paint up front is iffy- this is an old and battle-scarred shell, so I'm not sure what defects are a result of that or of the paint removal process. Anyway, I'm happy just to have paint on the thing. The next color will be gold.

Sorry, I painted my last C5R, came out really nice. Hmmmm, I have a WRX STI, but just the one left. A Tamiya CLK DTM, very interesting. I say that because the CLK DTM is some serious money if you can find it.

I might be willing to part with the WRX in a trade. Give me a week or so and I will let you know.

My last lancer:
