Thanks for the support guys. I just looked and I have a large crack down one side... sigh. When it rains, it pours I guess. I don't really mind though, since that 300mm Diablo will be on its way over soon enough. And like I said, I had fun and learned a lot!
The car isn't back together because I STILL haven't gotten myself onto a drill press to get the chassis finished. Like I said, it's been a hectic couple weeks. I have a lab report due Tuesday, a homework assignment due for Apple (part of the product design interview process!) on Wednesday, and I'm flying out to Detroit for Ford a week from today. Maybe I'll get a chance on Wednesday, we shall see.

Nice find! I poke around hobby shops when I can but usually when I ask about vintage HPI stuff they just laugh.
In other news, I just bought a Proceed. It was a good deal, but it was still the biggest RC expense I've ever incurred and I'm done buying things for the next month or so as I grade papers to pay it off! Here's a link to the listing...

Thought I'd provide a look into how I find deals, for those of you looking to broaden your RC car and parts search. None of it is rocket science, and the majority of it is being a college student with constant access to Wifi and the boredom to search multiple times daily.
1. eBay is an obvious option. You can save certain search terms and, instead of having to dig through the same "HPI Super Nitro" listings every time, eBay will show you only the new items added that match the subscription. Big time saver.
2. RCTech.net has the most active classifieds forum I've found by far. Items usually leave the front page within a few hours, so things move quickly. Use the advanced search to sift through the listings and find what you're looking for.
3. RCUniverse.com/market/ is a pretty good resource as well. You can list things for free and it's a nice system.
4. You can use the FS/Trade forums here on RadioControlZone, but they're a ghost town compared to these other places.
5. Craigslist is a pretty solid resource, but you're obviously limited to your geographic region. Luckily, you can use Google to get around that. In your Google search, use the term "________ site:craigslist.org" , filling in the blank with whatever you're looking for. This searches all websites with the craigslist.org domain, so basically everywhere in the USA. This is a tricky way of finding things because most people are posting their stuff on Craigslist because they want to deal locally. However, people who aren't familiar with the popular RC sales resources are likely to put their things here, and that also means that they can be out-of-touch with market values or just trying to get rid of old stuff they have no use for. There are bargains to be had, if you can get them to ship. This is how I found the Proceed (it was listed on RCU after we'd already exchanged emails).
Hopefully you guys can get some use out of my tips.

Thanks for posting the names of the other sites! I can only imagine how many older hobby shops out there in small towns (and forgotten corners of big cities), have parts, accessories, bodies and probably whole SN's. It's just a matter of finding them.
Geeeez, I guess I've been bitten by the bug.....badly. Not sure what it is about these S/N's that make me like them so much. The odd size? The scale-like body details? But I love em!!

You won't have any problems with them. I have ordered GPM stuff before. It's not the best, but it's better than the stock chassis, and I think you can find them on ebay for like 29.00 or 39.00.

Best place to shop online for paint:
Hey guys, well I'm tired of the LHS jacking up their prices on paint, so I need to find somewhere on line that has inexpensive shipping, and good prices on paint.
The online hobby store I was using before I can't seem to find anymore, but they use to have free shipping over orders of $25.
I had to break down and buy some rattle can pactra last Friday, and I couldn't believe the cost. It was 5.99 plus tax. surely it can still be found for under 4.50.

The bummer about paint is that it can't be shipped via air, so it costs a bit to send via ground. I bought my last batch of paint from RCBoyz on eBay, they sell the cans for $3.50 and are pretty good about combining shipping. Just send them a request for a total invoice after you buy but before you pay.

Proceed arrived in the mail today... it's really something. It's like a touring car, but everything about it is just... more serious. Huge foam tires, super thick chassis, huge parts, swoopy body, etc etc. Unfortunately I only had a few minutes to check it out before I had to run to the airport. I'm currently in LA for a job interview tomorrow, and then going straight on spring break through next Friday!
So... pictures will be posted, but it won't be for a while.

A .18TZ will work. It's extremely powerful so you may want to have some extra belts. I have one that I have never used, but I hope to break it in this spring.
